Streaming to Youtube

Glisser LIVE supports Public and Unlisted (not Private) live streams and videos hosted on YouTube.

Disclaimer: As a result of COVID-19, YouTube’s content review processes have been disrupted, it is possible for your stream to be taken down for “not supporting” YouTube’s Community Guidelines. You can find specific information about these guidelines in the YouTube Help Center.

Enable Your YouTube Channel

If you’ve never live-streamed from your YouTube account before then you’ll have to enable your YouTube channel. This can take up to 24 hours so make sure you do this well before your event. YouTube changed the steps to take to enable your account in July 2018, for more details see here.

Create Your Stream

Login to your YouTube account and press the “Create a Video or Post” button (camera with the + sign). Then select “Go Live”.

You can set up your stream weeks before your event starts, this will secure a stream link and give you a branded page with a countdown timer until your event.

You have two options on how to stream, depending on what equipment you’re going to be using:

  • Webcam is an easy way to go live without the need for an encoder. Start streaming from your laptop/desktop computer using your webcam. Available on Chrome browsers. One option would be to use a Mevo camera for a cost-effective solution (good for small panels or webinars).
  • Stream requires streaming software (encoder) if you are planning to use an external device such as a DSLR. You may need some technical help from your AV team if you plan to go down this route. See YouTube’s support articles here.

Webcam Streaming

  • You may be asked permission for YouTube to use your webcam and microphone. Simply select “Allow” for the box that appears at the top left of your screen.
  • Complete the Webcam stream info ensuring your stream is set to either Public (discoverable) or Unlisted (although publicly available using the link, it is not discoverable). We cannot support Private streams or videos.

  • You can choose to schedule for later and add in a time or begin your stream right away. Note that even if you do schedule for later you can still begin the live stream at any time.
  • YouTube now requires you to select whether your stream is being made for children under the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Select one of the two options before clicking Next.

  • YouTube will take a thumbnail screenshot (this can change this to a different image after the photo is captured by hovering over the thumbnail and selecting ‘Upload Custom Thumbnail’). If not, upload a thumbnail holding image.

  • Now you can share the embed link into your Glisser session by selecting ‘share’ and copying the link code. Note: you only need to copy the body of text after the “/”, it should like something like njmIXT01Z9U.

  • Paste this link into the backend of the Livestream URL box tab whilst editing your session on Glisser.

  • Once this is done all you need to do is present your session on Glisser to allow your audience to enter through the URL and you’ll be ready to begin your stream.
  • Head onto the scheduled YouTube stream and select Go Live when ready. After the countdown, you’ll be live! Present the slides as you normally would through Glisser.
  • If you have any polls in your presentation, make sure you have the share to audience devices setting enabled.

Tip: If your YouTube account doesn’t have at least 1k subscribers or monetization enabled, YouTube may not allow you to embed the live stream onto Glisser and will ask users to follow the link to your YouTube channel. We would recommend using Restream Widget with few platforms at the same to avoid common issues (like Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, Facebook).
